The BEST steak sandwich
I don’t say that lightly! Well, in my opinion it is the best…
There is nothing worse than a steak sandwich that has tough meat that you struggle to bite through, which is why I use eye fillet slices for my steak so it is easy to eat and an all round joy!
There are so many elements to this that you’re going to love! The caramelised onions, the turkish bread, the garlic aioli - I could go on and on.
If you love steak sandwiches, you are going to love this one! Let me know if you try it below!
Prep Time: 10 min
Cooking Time: 30 min
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
Turkish bread
Eye fillet steak x 2
2 onions, sliced into thin rounds
1 TBS brown sugar
1 TBS balsamic vinegar
Avocado
Tomato
Provolone (sub Gouda if you can’t find provolone)
Rocket
1/4 cup egg mayo
1 garlic clove, crushed
BBQ Sauce
Method:
Ideally, get your steak out of the fridge 2 hours before to bring to room temp
Cut the onions into thin rounds
Heat a pan over a medium/high heat and add some olive oil. Cook the onions with a lid on for 10 mins - this allows them to sweat and become sweeter
Add the brown sugar and balsamic vinegar and stir until combined. Cook for further few mins
Prep all your ingredients - cut up tomato & avo
Mix the mayo with crushed garlic clove
Heat a pan over a high heat until smoke comes off it
Rub olive oil, salt and pepper into each side of the steaks
Cook steaks for 4 minutes each side and then move to a plate and cover with foil. Rest for 5 minutes - do not skip this step!!!
Meanwhile place your Turkish bread under the grill with the provolone on the bottom piece, until toasted and melted
Once the steak has rested, cut into thin slides
Arrange with rocket on the bottom, then tomato, avocado, steak, onions and put the mayo and bbq sauce on the top bun
Serve & Enjoy!
