Chicken Gyros
My secret to a good Gyros is a thiiiick layer of Tzatziki!
This is a great weeknight recipe that your whole family will love! You will be transported back to a beach of Greece with a Gyros in hand (I wish!).
A Gyros is a Greek style wrap/kebab, that is served on pita with tzatziki, meat of choice, greek salad and hot chips!
In the recipe, I will show you how to make your own Tzatziki, but if you can’t be bothered then feel free to buy it! Makes it an easier weeknight meal.
For this recipe, I’ve used chicken however pork would be really nice too. Also, leftovers from my lamb roast makes for an amazing Gyros - 2 recipes in one hello!

3 TBS greek yoghurt
1 TBS dried oregano
1 TBS olive oil
1/2 lemon, juiced
1/2 TSP salt, sweet paprika and cumin
Tzatziki:
500ml greek yoghurt

Capsicum
Large pita bread
Hot chips:
3 potatoes peeled and cut into thin wedges
1 TBS olive oil
1 TBS sweet paprika

Method:
Tzatziki: You need to start this process the night before!
Place a sieve on top of a bowl (so it is raised) and then place a clean chux. Add the greek yoghurt and let it sit overnight (mim 12 hours).
The next morning take it out and you will be left with a nice thick greek yoghurt. Put it into a bowl and leave it for when you’re ready to cook.
Cut the cucumber in half and remove seeds with a teaspoon
Grate and then place in paper towel or a clean chux and squeeze to remove the juices
Add to the greek yoghurt with crushed garlic, olive oil and salt. Stir until combined!
Chicken:
Marinate the chicken anywhere from 2-12 hours before
Add all ingredients into the bowl and mix. Cover and place in the fridge to marinate
Preheat a pan over a high heat and add some olive oil
Add the chicken and cook for 5 mins each side until cooked through, the marinade will burn but it gives it a nice char!
Slice when ready to serve
Hot chips:
Preheat oven to 200c
Cut your potatoes into thin wedges
put them in a bowl with the olive oil, sweet paprika, oregano and salt and mix until combined
Place on a baking tray and cook for 25 mins until crunchy
Greek salad:
Thinly slice the onion, chop tomatoes into thin slices and cut cucumber into half moons. Place in a bowl
Crumble feta and add 1 TBS of dried oregano. Mix until combined and set aside.
Assembly:
Preaheat a frying pan over a medium heat, spray your pita with oil and sprinkle oregano all over
Cook for 1-2 mins until it starts to brown
Place a piece of baking paper down and the pita bread on top
Put a thick layer of tzatziki, hot chips, salad and chicken and roll it up in the baking paper
Serve and enjoy!
