In N Out Animal Style Burger

Truly one of the best burgers you will ever try, made in your own home!

Every time I have been to LA, In N Out is always on the cards, and you know it’s good when the line for drive through causes a traffic jam around the block!

The In N Out Animal Style burger is a part of their secret menu and what sets it apart from the rest is the onions and once you make it' - you’ll understand why! They are slowly cooked until they are sweet and caramelised.

I made this burger a double, however it can also be made as a single! It will be just as good if not better!

The sauce is also a game changer! You are going to love it, and if you do please let me know if the comments!

Prep Time: 40 min

Cooking Time: 20 min

Serves: 2

Ingredients:

  • Chuck minced 500g

  • McDonalds buns OR brioche buns

  • American/burger cheese

  • Iceberg lettuce

  • Tomatoes

  • Bread & butter pickles

  • 2 onions, chopped fine

Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup Kewpie Mayo

  • 3 TBS ketchup

  • 1 TSP Pickle relish

  • 6 Chopped up bread and butter pickles

  • 1/2 tsp white vinegar

Method:

Onions: Finely chop the onion and cook in a pan with a bit of olive oil for 30 mins covered on a low heat, stirring every now and again. Increase the heat to high and 1/2 cup water. Stir until they brown and the water evaporates for about 10 mins

To make the sauce: Mix the mayo, ketchup, relish, chopped pickles and vinegar in a bowl. Set aside in the fridge

Separate the meat into 4 evenly sized patties. Press them out so they are a little bit bigger than your bun as they shrink when you cook them

Season the patties generously with salt and pepper, cook for 2 mins on one side and then flip.

Add a piece of cheese to both patties and cook for a further 2 mins. Put a lid on to help the cheese melt

Pop the buns under the grill for a minute to toast

Put a good amount of sauce on the bottom bun, then tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, then the first patty and some onions, then the next patty and more onions. Top with more sauce and the bun!

Serve and ENJOY the best burger ever!
